First of all, it’s been a while since I blogged, but I had something to write today, so I’m sharing it which I intend to be useful for both of us.
Reading a book called The Master-Key to Riches by Napoleon Hill.
In it he says: “Mr. Carnegie adopted a novel method for the distribution of his riches because he recognized the weakness of mankind in wanting something for nothing.”
I got to thinking. Is it true? Do people want something for nothing? And if so… why?
Something for Nothing - True or False?
It’s both true and false. Sometimes each of us wants something for nothing. When my wife brings me a glass of water, sometimes it’s just a glass of water and I offer nothing in return. And sometimes we want BIG THINGS while selfishly offering nothing in return. Other times, we prefer to get our own water, and build our own Empire.
They key piece that most of us understand is that working hard for something is a rewarding experience. You don’t want EVERYTHING for free.
If True, why?
So why do people want something for nothing? Overlooking the rewards of hard work and achievement?
I think the answer is two fold:
#1. First Stage Dependency.
We all were helpless once, little babies FULLY dependent upon the love and care of our parents and caretakers. We gave nothing back. We got… something for nothing every day of our lives. As we grow and mature, we start taking our own steps of achievement out into the world. But at core we remember those days of dependence, and some of us just haven’t grown up out of that stage.
#2. Fourth Stage Integrated State
It doesn’t usually matter which origin story you believe as a human on this planet, whether we came from Heaven in the Garden of Eden, or we sprang from one true consciousness of infinity… in most of us is a recognized entitlement to perfect and abundance. I use the word entitlement in the purest form, as heirs to GOD, to infinity, we came from perfect, so we know that’s our home. We may enjoy overcoming challenges, and understand them in the context of our existence here, but somewhere in our deepest spiritual awareness is the truth that there is such a thing as perfect abundance, perfect love, oneness, Heaven, and it calls to us. Whether you think it can be earned, or simply accepted, deep in our subconscious is this idea of an inherited birthright estate of perfect. Home if you will.
It is my belief that connecting to your previous estate, the one where you matter no matter what, heir to the Kingdom of God, can steer you to a life of meaning, challenge, achievement and abundance. When you know it’s all yours anyway (or none of it ever was), then you are free to enjoy life a bit more and choose hard things to do simply for the reward of doing them.
